Shaw, Hilton Pen New York Times Guest Essay

S3D faculty members Mary Shaw and Michael Hilton recently earned a byline in the New York Times for their guest essay, "You’re a Computer Science Major. Don’t Panic." In the letter, they discuss generative AI tools and what they mean for the future of computer science — and those who both teach and study it.

"The essential skill is no longer simply writing programs but learning to read, understand, critique and improve them instead," the pair write. "The future of computer science education is to teach students how to master the indispensable skill of supervision."
